News Report: Patients Victim to Florida Hospital Records Breach Call for More Arrests

August 22, 2012

WFTV.com reported that Florida Hospital patients are now calling for more arrests in a massive electronic patient record breach that’s impacted thousands of people.

On Friday, federal agents arrested a former employee accused of stealing patient records and re-selling them.

After a 10-month investigation, former Florida Hospital Celebration employee Dale Munroe has been arrested. Munroe allegedly accessed more than 760,000 patient records at several different Florida Hospitals in a two-year period, the news report said.

Investigators said he sold patient information to someone who solicited for chiropractors and lawyers.

WFTV.com reported that it appears several people were involved in using those records. Berry Popejoy is legally blind and said he has other health problems that have landed him in different Florida Hospital emergency rooms in recent years.

Last year, he received a letter warning him he might have been a victim in the records breach that impacted thousands of people.

“It’s about time they did something because I’m telling you I’ve been a wreck,” told WFTV. “I’m glad and I’m hoping they bury him underneath the jail.”
