IT Employment Continues its Positive Growth

June 12, 2012

Despite the underwhelming performance of the overall job market, IT employment continues to reach new highs.

In May, the number of IT jobs grew by 15,500 or .4 percent sequentially to 4,179,500, according to TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT service firms, clients, consultants and suppliers.

May marks the fifth consecutive month where IT employment has reached a new record high. IT jobs have increased by more than 110,000, an increase of 2.7 percent, in the past 12 months. In comparison, the number of overall jobs grew only 0.1 percent in April and was up only 1.4 percent from the same time last year.

“While the overall May jobs report was interpreted by many as a signal of a stalling recovery, we are seeing no such slowdown in IT,” said Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. “To the contrary, my member companies who place high tech talent in most Fortune 1000 companies report both robust demand as well as a shortage of talent in high-demand skill sets.”
