Former CEO’s Future and that of Highmark Unclear

April 3, 2012

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.that Pittsburgh health insurer Highmark’s former CEO Kenneth R. Melani continued to come unglued over the weekend, as Highmark’s board of directors voted to fire the former executive in the wake of criminal charges filed against him for assaulting his mistress’ husband.

Dr. Melani had been placed on unpaid leave last week after board members learned he faced criminal charges of simple assault and trespass for following his lover, Melissa Myler — an employee at Highmark since October 2011 — to the Oakmont home of her husband, Mark Myler, confronting him and then allegedly punching him. Melissa Myler told police she began the affair with Dr. Melani shortly after she began working for Highmark as an entry-level business analyst. Dr. Melani has been married for 19 years and has four daughters, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
