Healthcare’s “Unified Effort” Essential to ICD-10’s Transition

April 19, 2011

The American Health Information Management Association sold out its third ICD-10 Summit recently with more than 500 healthcare professionals in attendance for a program that saw a 25 percent increase over 2010, a testament to the amount of work that still needs to be done to transition to ICD-10.

A theme among the HIM professionals, corporations, payers and providers was the need for healthcare to work in unison as a means of assuring that an entire and successful transition will be completed by the October 1, 2013 deadline.

“The only way America’s healthcare system is going to realize the full advantage of ICD-10 is if we all work in universal recognition of one another, as unique and responsible professionals lending a valued voice to this process of change,” said AHIMA President Bonnie Cassidy, MPA, RHIA.
